Previous / Next Order Navigation for Magento 2
Move between neighboring Magento 2 orders without returning to the grid. Same-store navigation, native Admin actions and no wraparound.
Keep moving through orders.
Open the previous or next order from the native Magento 2 Admin action area or the navigation strip in the Information tab. Both placements resolve the same nearest neighbors within the exact store view.
Focused navigation, in two places
Native order actions
Previous order and Next order controls sit beside the existing order actions. Labels and tooltips identify the target; sequence ends are noninteractive.
Information tab strip
See labeled links to the same neighboring orders while reviewing order information.
A stable record sequence
Nearest existing entity IDs define the sequence within one store view. Gaps and custom order-number formats work; order status and dates do not change the sequence.
Know the navigation boundaries
Grid filters, sorting and browser history do not apply. There is no wraparound or keyboard shortcut. Same-store selection is not per-order authorization. For roles with third-party store, ownership or order restrictions, keep the module disabled or withhold its view permission until query selection and the target controller enforce the same restrictions. No third-party restriction adapter is included. Store 0, unavailable stores and query failures show unavailable states rather than false sequence ends.
Offline and read-only
The MIT module creates no operational tables, telemetry, outbound requests, credentials, cron jobs or order mutations. Only the enable setting is saved. Rendering requires both Magento_Sales::actions_view and Stoneholl_OrderNavigation::view; configuration has a separate permission. Disabled or denied rendering performs no feature reads. Offline Stoneholl Core ^1.0 is required; Connector and a Stoneholl account are optional. The website demo uses fictional records and does not model a live authorization system.
Enable it when your roles are ready
Run composer require stoneholl/module-order-navigation:^1.0, then enable Stoneholl_Core and Stoneholl_OrderNavigation with bin/magento module:enable and follow your approved Magento 2 upgrade, DI, static content and cache procedure. At Default Config scope, open Stores > Configuration > Stoneholl > Previous / Next Order Navigation > General. Enable Order Navigation defaults to No. Website and store overrides are unsupported. Refresh Admin sessions after changing roles.
Exact release checks
Release documentation records Magento Open Source 2.3.7-p4 / PHP 7.4.33 / MySQL 5.7.44 and Magento Open Source 2.4.9 / PHP 8.5.9 / MariaDB 12.3.2 installation, DI and targeted runtime/Admin checks. These records apply to those exact pairs. Intermediate versions, Adobe Commerce and third-party Admin themes remain untested. The module requires the standard native InnoDB order store index; a missing or renamed index produces a safe unavailable state.
Good to know
Can I open the previous or next order in Magento2 Admin?
Enable Order Navigation to show controls in the native action area and Information tab. Neighbors follow record IDs within the same store view, across all order statuses.
Why is the feature disabled after installation?
It defaults to No so administrators can review roles and any third-party order restrictions before granting navigation access.
Does it follow my current order grid filter?
No. It selects the nearest existing entity IDs in the same store across all statuses, independently of grid filters and sorting.
Does Next always mean a larger displayed order number?
No. Custom order labels and creation dates do not define the entity-ID sequence.
What happens at the end?
No previous order or No next order appears without an active target. Navigation never wraps to the other end.
