Stoneholl Latest Internal Comment for Magento 2

Highlight the latest qualifying internal history comment in Magento 2 Admin. Read-only text, instant local expansion and explicit search coverage.

Bring qualifying history into view.

Highlight the latest qualifying native order-history comment near the top of an authorized Magento 2 Admin order view. The summary shows a bounded text preview, source date, search coverage and a route back to native history. It never edits or submits comments.

A clear summary of the loaded history

Strict history eligibility

Only current-order rows with case-sensitive entity_name = order, storefront visibility 0, notification flag 0 and nonblank ASCII-trimmed text qualify. The highest eligible record ID wins, regardless of imported or backdated timestamps.

Instant local expansion

The preview contains at most 200 Unicode characters. Expand and Collapse toggle already loaded, escaped text with no additional request or SQL. Line breaks remain visible; long text scrolls in a keyboard-focusable region.

Visible search coverage

Search the newest 200 history records, using a 201st ID only to detect older coverage. Empty results never claim that an older qualifying comment cannot exist outside that window.

A summary, not a private-note system

Visibility and notification flags do not prove text was never shared through another channel. The module does not infer an administrator author; integrations may write qualifying history. Native history remains separate and follows its own permissions and APIs. Full text within the native 65,535-byte TEXT budget is intentionally present in the authorized page DOM while collapsed. Customized oversized values receive only a bounded preview; native history remains the route to their full value. Images, HTML and URLs remain literal text without rich rendering or automatic hyperlinks. No attachments, editing, templates, priorities, exports or notifications are added.

Read-only and separately authorized

The summary requires both Magento_Sales::actions_view and Stoneholl_LatestInternalComment::view. Configuration permission does not grant viewing access; native comment submission keeps its own permission. Disabled or denied summaries perform no feature queries and render no hidden summary text. The summary ACL does not hide Magento 2’s native history. Verify third-party order restrictions before granting access. No feature storage, customer-facing surface, expansion endpoint, telemetry, Connector copy or order mutation is introduced. Free Core ^1.0 is required and offline; Connector, pairing and paid entitlement are not required.

Enable the summary for reviewed roles

Run composer require stoneholl/module-latest-internal-comment:^1.0. Enable Stoneholl_Core and Stoneholl_LatestInternalComment, then follow your normal backup, Magento 2 upgrade, DI, Admin static deployment and cache procedure. Open Stores > Configuration > Stoneholl > Latest Internal Comment > General at Default Config scope. Enable Latest Internal Comment defaults to No. Save unsaved native order work before refreshing; Expand does not reread history or reauthorize an already loaded page.

Published release and exact runtime evidence

The public MIT release is 1.0.0. Release documentation records Magento Open Source 2.3.7-p4 / PHP 7.4.33 / MySQL 5.7.44 and Magento Open Source 2.4.9 / PHP 8.5.9 / MariaDB 12.3.2 native install/upgrade, DI, Admin assets, role/HTTP and browser checks. The final preload update repeats local expansion, literal markup, SQL and narrow-screen checks. PHP 8.0 has syntax coverage, without a certified Magento 2 runtime pair. Other Magento/PHP pairs, Adobe Commerce and third-party Admin layouts remain unverified.

Good to know

How can I see the latest internal order comment in Magento2?

Enable Latest Internal Comment for reviewed roles to show the latest qualifying order-history excerpt. The summary is read-only and requires both order-view and module-view permissions.

Does Expand request the latest comment again?

No. Both preview and full text reflect page load. Refresh the native order page to reflect changed comments, flags or permissions.

Does the newest timestamp win?

No. The highest eligible history record ID within the latest 200 current-order entries wins. Backdated timestamps do not change that sequence.

Will an image tag load an image?

No. HTML, image tags, URLs and data URIs remain escaped literal text in both collapsed and expanded states.

Does disabling this summary hide native order history?

No. Its permission controls only the additional summary. Magento 2’s existing order history remains governed by its native access controls.
